D-STAR

D-STAR is a digital mode for amateur radio whose development was sponsored by the Japanese government and the JARL. D-STAR is an open standard available for development by anybody. It supports both digital data and digital voice, both with and without repeaters.

Commercial equipment[edit | edit source]

Currently, only Icom makes D-STAR hardware commercially. There are un-confirmed rumours that Kenwood is working on a D-Star radio as well.
