This page details our first meshtastic node purchase, based on the Heltec v1.1 Wireless Tracker
Vendor links[edit]
- Amazon
- Heltec v1.1
- meshtastic firmware
- firmware by cli (the hard way)
Assembly details[edit]
- Antenna must be connected before powering up device (or risk burning out radio)
- Battery connector may not be correct polarity, check before connecting
- Antenna connector has a limited number of insertions (10-50) before it wears out!!
Software details[edit]
- firmware
Case options[edit]
- Most cases posted online seem to be for the Heltec v3 which is smaller and does not include GPS onboard
Currently working on a 3d printed OpenSCAD model
Case features:
- (mostly?) unobstructed USB C port
- exposed screen (>2mm bezel step, may taper later)
- holes for buttons (with possible external button extensions)
- Antenna port on opposite end from usb port, oriented so it points up when screen is landscape
- battery enclosure
- possible hinged back plate to minimize battery wire yanking on open
- possible tpu shock mounting for battery
Future features:
- rotary encoder mount location, maybe under antenna
- possible on/off switch
- mounts for internal accessories
- piezeo speaker?
- cell phone buzzer motor
- barometer
- neopixel strip
Accessory purchasing[edit]
These parts lists are preliminary and overlap. Not all parts are required. Some parts may require firmware changes.
Adafruit[edit]
$4.50 | Rotary encoder |
$1.94 | vibrating pager motor disc |
$9.95 | barometer thermometer board |
$5.95 | 8x Neopixel RGB strip |
$4.95 | Rugged illuminated metal pushbutton on/off |
Notes:
- rotary encoder doesn't have an easy way to mount it, comes with 16mm knob
- neopixel strip probably works best with a translucent case, although this could be a separate part
Digikey[edit]
$1.10 | Rotary encoder |
$1.12 | push button on/off |
$2.68 | rocker switch |
$3.56 | slide switch |
$3.90 | slide switch |
Notes:
- rotary encoder price is for a batch of 5
- Rotary encoder comes? with washer and nut for stem mount
