ARC preamble now

This is the preamble for the ARCatUCF net... The Net Control Operator (NCO) should have compiled a list of announcements and discussion topics prior to the net. These are typically emailed in from other members and officers, or added to Template:ARC announcements and Template:ARC discussion which are included here. Additional announcements and topics of discussion will be requested during the net.

Note: Check the NATO phonetic alphabet for phonetic spelling pronunciation guide. Good use of the phonetic alphabet can prevent confusion, especially with call signs.

This preamble has been customized for KK4CYA Chris (<phonetic>KK4CYA</phonetic>).

Guide to net procedures[edit]

(This is not part of the preamble to be read over the radio.) The purpose of net control is to keep the net moving smoothly and orderly. As such, a few things should help:

  • Net control should keep a list of who checks in as they check in, for reference as the net progresses. (It may help to use the list of members on the ARCatUCF page as most of the check-ins should already be in that list.)
  • After several people have checked in, net control should acknowledge them by listing the calls heard as checked in.
  • If two stations attempt to transmit at once, net control should make a best effort at sorting it out and choose one to go first.
  • When acknowledging a station to talk, explicitly call them, by name or call sign.
  • Remember that there are delays inherent in the repeater system, including when squelch on both the repeater and the radios open. Hold your PTT in about a second before you begin speaking. If you push PTT and immediately speak a single syllable and let go, some radios will not even notice you transmitted.
  • To net participants -- be kind to new net control operators! Speak your call signs clearly and slowly, and give a net control who has not already memorized them all a chance to copy them down.
