Meetings 5:30pm Thursdays in 456A
"It's not the size of the antenna, but the SWR that counts."
"Amateur" has the connotation of unprofessional, sloppy, substandard, but that's wrong. Root word is 'amo' which is to love. We do it because we love it, and don't need to be paid to do it. If you're doing amateur radio and not having fun, you are doing it wrong.
Mission[edit | edit source]
The mission of Amateur Radio Club at UCF is to train members on communication and technical phases of the radio art, and contribute to the development of the radio art.

- Meshtastic deployments - Tier 0 nodes deployed, tier 1 in progress, widespread deployment coming later.
- SDR distributed direction finding - Feasible sites found, no progress on software/hardware.
- satellite ground station controller - Controller made, interface functional. Needs correct transistors and final hardware fixes.
- SDR remote setup and remote display - Partial hardware, no software. Multiple positions available for antenna.
- Portable Rotor for sat tracking - Heavily underway. Hardware chosen, software in progress.
- simple antenna builds for any member: Copper J-pole, Roll-up J-Pole, tape measure Yagi, Moxon - Needs reassessment with modern economic conditions. Can't source tape spools for Yagi, Copper for J-pole too expensive, 450ohm ladder line supply issues, No current Moxon design.
